The Design. Obviously, you would need a blueprint of the work you're about to undergo. Before you even think about taking down a wall, ensure that you already have something in mind for that. Even a simple sketch on a piece of scratch paper would be a good start. Besides, you can always hire an architect to enhance whatever existing concept you already have.

The Budget. Most people would argue that this should be the first step when, in fact, there should be a drawing of the floor plan first before deciding to check on your funds. Think about it, if you base your project's outline on the money, you'd most likely not be able to come up with what you really want because of the limitations. If, however, you already have something drafted out, at least all you need to do is tweak the existing design to suit what's available. This way, you don't have to sacrifice all your desires as you only need to make some adjustments.

The Foundations. No one wants to have any part of their house fall down on them. Thus, creating a solid base for your abode is of critical importance even if your purpose is merely for renovation. If your venture doesn't involve having to tinker with the foundations, you should still have your contractor take a look at them.

The Materials. Choosing quality components for both interior and exterior is also exceptionally important—from the tiles to the kind of paint you use. Even if it's terribly tempting to purchase affordable materials, at least make sure that you're not compromising on quality.

These are just the basics when it comes to improving your property and you should take the time to know more about its other intricacies as well.
