Shopping for Kitchen Tiles
Are you planning to redo your kitchen floor so that it would look nice and neat? Why not try installing ceramic tiles? These are very popular because they are durable, easy to clean, and classy. They are also available in all shapes, sizes, colours, and textures to match the theme of your kitchen. Choosing the right tile depends on your preference though, so here are a few basic reminders that you have to keep in mind before bringing home a truckload of tiles from the home improvement shop.
First, determine how tough you want the tiles to be. To do this, you need to refer to the Porcelain Enamel Institute's (PEI) standardised rating system for ceramics. Ask your provider for the rating system for the type of tiles you choose. Look for pieces that have a PEI rating of Class 3 or Class 4 because they can handle light to heavy foot traffic.
Next, choose glazed tiles. Glazing is a process wherein the tiles are coated with liquid glass that is baked unto the surface of the clay. The glaze improves the pieces' resistance to stain, making them very easy to clean. In fact, you just need a mop that is soaked with warm water and mild detergent solution to clean any spills on them! The downside of glazed tiles is that they can be slippery. Fortunately, you can remedy this problem by applying an anti-slip solution.
Finally, choose the right tile size. For less spacious kitchens, buy small ones such as 12-inch squares or smaller. That is because larger tiles may overpower the décor. However, if your kitchen is quite large, use larger tiles to convey an organised, relax, less busy look.
