Cleaning and Maintaining a Gym Floor
Of all the structural aspects in a gym, nothing gets more abused than the floor. Usually made of high-quality wood, gym floors constantly come into contact with equipment and heavy human traffic. Because lots of sports and exercises are done in this place, it is extremely crucial for the flooring to be well-maintained to ensure the safety of the athletes using it.
First, sweep the floor daily to remove stones, dirt, and other debris that can scratch the wooden finish. After sweeping, mop the entire floor to remove the dust and smaller pieces of debris. Next, mix two parts clean water with one part vinegar in a bucket. Dip the mop into the bucket then wring out the excess water. You can then mop the entire gym floor with long, even strokes. The vinegar in the solution will disinfect, deodorise, and clean the wood without causing damage or resulting in finish dullness. Finally, allow the floor to dry naturally.
To maintain the floor, regularly apply a fresh coat of floor wax, preferably one that has a polyurethane coating. You can apply the wax with large paintbrushes, paint rollers, or rags. Next, put a floor mat at every entrance. Let everyone wipe their feet on the mat before stepping on the gym floor. The wiping action will remove much of the debris stuck under the shoes. To further protect your floor, place rubber grips under all gym equipment.
Finally, contract an expert floor sanding company to strip your floor every 5 to 10 years. That is because no matter how diligent you are in your maintenance routine, normal wear and tear will slowly strip the floor of its protective coating.
